What is Tiered Pricing?

Future Energy’s CSMS platform supports tiered pricing strategies that allow station owners to offer different rates to specific user groups. Tiered pricing refers to applying different public charging pricing models based on the identity or role of the EV driver. Rather than setting a single universal fee structure, CPOs can create multiple pricing tiers and assign them to user groups. This functionality is especially useful for organizations with mixed audiences—such as staff, fleet users, and the general public—enabling tailored access and incentives.

User Group Examples

The "User Groups" feature in the Future Energy dashboard allows station owners to define and manage these categories. Examples tailored to different industries include:

For Auto Dealerships

1. Dealership Staff (Personal Workplace Charging)
  1. Charging access for employees using personal EVs during work hours.
  2. Example: $0.15/kWh during business hours; $0.10/kWh after hours.
2. Inventory and Service Vehicles (Business Operations)
  1. Internal charging for service bay diagnostics, vehicle prep, or test drive support.
  2. Example: Employee users are allowed to activate charge sessions, which are logged and tracked in the Future Energy CSMS Dashboard.

For Hotels

1. Registered Guests
  1. Charger use can be limited to invited hotel guests only.
  2. Hotel adds guests to private charger user group, based on reservation request.
2. Loyalty Guests
  1. Loyalty members awarded complimentary or reduced cost charging based on status.
  2. Example: Top tier members added to a user group that allows complimentary charging. These sessions can be limited to maintain cost control.
2. Staff Personal Vehicles
  1. Managed access for hotel employees commuting with EVs.
  2. Example: $0.10/kWh flat rate, no idle fee.
3. Business Vehicles
  1. Internal charging for hotel shuttle bus.
  2. Employee users are allowed to activate charge sessions, which are logged and tracked in the Future Energy CSMS Dashboard.
3. Day Visitors (Non-Guest Public)
  1. Standard public rate with idle fees to encourage turnover.
  2. Example: $0.30/kWh + $0.10/min idle fee after 5 minutes.

For Highway DCFC Stations

1. Loyalty Program Members (Fleet or Subscription-Based Drivers)
  1. Discounted pricing for enrolled members or fleet drivers.
  2. Example: $0.40/kWh
2. General Public Travelers
  1. Full-rate tier for ad-hoc or one-time users.
  2. Example: $0.50/kWh + $0.50/min idle fee after 5 minutes.
