How to Report the Cost of Charging Vehicles

How to Report the Cost of Charging Vehicles

This guide outlines how to export charging session data from the Future Energy dashboard and calculate the cost of each session, on a volumetric cost of electricity basis. This is ideal for internal operational tracking, such as allocating EV charging costs across departments.

Home>Activity>Charging Sessions

  1. Filter Sessions: Use filters to choose dates. Also, be sure to filter for sessions that have session status as "Finished."
  2. Select Sessions: Once Filtered, select sessions using checkbox on the left.

  3. Export Sessions: Once selected, under Actions on the right side click the Export button at the top right of the session list.

  4. Select the regular option in order for users and user group columns to be exported.

  5. You will receive an email shortly after with a link. After clicking, you may be asked to login again, and then you will be able to download.

  6. Download and open the exported file, which will include session details such as:

    • Session ID

    • User email and user group

    • Start and End Time

    • Session Duration

    • Energy (Wh)
      Warning
This must be converted to kWh, divide by 1000
    • Charge Point

    • Revenue

Add Cost Calculation Columns

  1. Open the exported file in a spreadsheet tool.

  2. Hide/delete columns as needed for view.

  3. Create 2 new columns. One for "Cost per kWh", and another for "Calculated Cost"

    1. For the cost rate per kWh (e.g., $0.25 per kWh): To convert from Wh, add three 0s after decimal place. [30000Wh = 30kW], [$0.25 per kWh = $.00025 per Wh]

    2. For the Calculated Cost, input formula: (Energy in Wh X cost per Wh) Ex. (23700 x $.00025= $7.50)

    3. Example for Excel:

Column A
Column B
Column C
Column D
Column E

=D2*E2
Row 3

6. Copy the formula to all other rows. Save and utilize for accounting purposes.
